valuable information on how to prevent virus

Post  Hanamichi on Thu 22 Jan 2009, 11:47 pm

Trained to prevent ...... This document explains the differences between viruses and offers suggestions for preventing them in the future.

Defining viruses, worms, hoaxes, Trojans and security vulnerability

There are literally thousands of different viruses and malicious software that can harm your computer or make it work more slowly. The types of malicious programs vary but usually include:

Virus: A program that copies itself to another program or section of a unit or item that supports commands. Most viruses only copy themselves, while a minority is running a load, which is the action generated by the virus. Actions may include damage to files, corrupted hard drives, display messages or open other files. This usually occurs under certain conditions, such as when the clock of the computer reaches a certain date. A variant is the virus altered to take advantage of a code already created by another virus. By doing this, the virus does not detect the virus immediately because they are looking for the original virus.

Worm: Form virus that is more effective systems at risk and then copies itself to these systems. The most common methods of spread are through distribution lists, electronic mail messages commands firms, and shared network. The worms may be harmful or not a burden. At present, the most common effect of the worms is to make the computer more vulnerable to malicious viruses.

Deception: An email message saying that something is harming your computer but not actually produce this effect. Some hoaxes ask the reader to make damaging processes, such as deleting an important file. Most are spread by individuals with good intentions to create an alert to other potential viruses that, in fact, is just a hoax.

Trojan or Trojan horse program designed to affect the overall security of a system. The program is usually disguised as something else (a benign program) or camouflaged as a legitimate user would expect to see or want to load on the system. The burden of running a Trojan usually just opens and produces devastating results. Trojans are often used to create back doors (programs that provide external access to a secure network) computer networks safe for a hacker to access the network. Trojans are usually sent by e-mail attachments as a string of seemingly innocent.

Security Vulnerability: Weakness in software that allows a malicious or unwanted activities in an operating system or a computer.

How to prevent being infected

WARNING: Never open an attachment or a link in an email message when you do not know the person who sent it or not trust it. There are malicious individuals who sometimes circulate messages pretending to be from a source of prestige, such as Microsoft. Most companies do not send e-mail software. If you doubt the integrity of a message, with contactate network administrator before opening.

Prevention of computer viruses

Note1 - To completely protect your computer against malicious attacks, should be installed and active firewall. Microsoft Windows. Image

Note2 - Get security updates for Windows first, the best way to avoid the virus is not infected. Be sure to regularly use the Windows update to install all critical updates. Install the latest critical updates from Microsoft makes your computer less vulnerable to malicious activities.

nota3 - Check if there is any antivirus software installed and enabled, this should do the following action

Roll your mouse on the bottom right corner of the icons on the screen next to the clock. You should get a text when you pass the cursor over an icon. If you see some text like antivirus activated, you have antivirus software installed. If you do not see it, click Start, then Search, then Files and folders. In Windows XP, click Start, then Search and then All files and folders. Enter the name of your antivirus in the Name field and then Find Now (or Search in XP). In the area of results, you may see programs listed as Symantec in the case of our computers. If you see any antivirus program, you have antivirus software installed.

nota4 - Update anti-virus software definitions Due to hundreds of new viruses created every month, you should regularly update the virus definition files for your antivirus software. A virus definition file is a list of known viruses using antivirus software to find and delete. To update the virus definitions, do the following: Open your antivirus software. Press the buttons or menus that say Live update or updates. You should see a wizard update your antivirus software. If the wizard does not appear, contact the network administrator for technical assistance.

Remember that ... in case of viruses on your computer, disconnect from the network immediately and requested technical support from your network administrator. With these simple steps, will be free of viruses.
